I’ve been playing in various forms of the Sea for over six years. It has been one of the biggest and best parts of my adult life. Things have changed a lot for me over the second half of its duration, and I have tried (with varying degrees of effort) to keep it going (with varying degrees of success) despite those changes. I wrote a few songs in the past couple of years that I am proud of, but things just are not what they once were. It has been increasingly difficult to be creative and productive musically. Decisions I made about the band that would accompany me made it difficult to even have a band. I played a festival recently, and a writer described my music as “sensitive acoustic stuff.” It made me want to vomit. A great friend recently told me how nice it was to know he could see me play and hear the same old songs from years ago. It made me want to die. I really don’t look back at anything with regret, but I am excited about putting this to rest and starting anew. That’s what I plan to do. I feel like there are more songs to sing. I want to write and play music to my full potential. I want to give God all of the glory and praise. Thank you to everyone who continually encourages me to do these things.
For now, I need closure. I am playing two last shows - Saturday, January 9th at Soundquest Studio in Melbourne and Monday, January 11th at Will’s Pub. These will be with the fully realized Sea, including one Adam Burguet on drums. Practicing with them again has been awesome. Please come out if you can, and spread the word to those who would want to know. I am also trying to record a few songs written after the album, so if that pans out, they’ll be available for free download around the same time. The split with Gettysburg has not been forgotten. Everyone’s lives got in the way I guess, but that should be available for download at around the same time as well. I’ll be “selling” any CDs and shirts I still have for whatever donation you care to give ($0 is fine with me).
That’s what I got. I hope to see you at the shows. If you are reading this, then you have probably helped me and this music more than you know. Thank you.
